Steep Tea at the Right Temperature with Cuisinart PerfectTemp Electric Kettle

by Matthew Burgess on April 6, 2011

For different teas to get just the right flavor, and to release the antioxidants, they have to be steeped at just the right temperature.

I’ve been looking for a good easy solution to getting the right temperature for tea. My whistling tea pot cannot be counted on to whistle consistently at the same temperature. Rather, it blows after boil, and how long after the boil begins is dependent on how tight I pushed the whistle stopper in.

Not a good solution.

Then along comes the Cuisinart PerfecTemp.

This is a bit expensive, but how perfect does this look to get exactly the right temperature on your water for different teas, french press coffee and other coffee boils?

The kettle has a simple one-touch control on the handle, where you can select 160 degrees F for delicate teas, 175 degrees F for green tea, 185 degrees F for white tea, 190 degrees F for oolong tea, 200 degrees F for French press coffee, and “Boil” for black tea or to make instant cocoa, oatmeal, noodles, and more. The control panel also offers blue LED indicators, a “start” button, and a “keep warm” button, which will maintain the set temperature for 30 minutes.

But wait, there are choices….

Also from Cuisinart (yes, I’m loving this company right about now), at a lower price point, but for no sacrifice in style is the porcelain PerfecTemp. It’s not nearly as push button simple as the other one, which goes to the right temp and stays there. This one has a precise temperature gauge on the side.
